As a student of a High school in Albuquerque, I find this type of stuff just appaleing. You even made the front page of the paper. Are you happy for your selfs? Having competion with another school is good in all, but this just goes over the line. You all should think before you type stuff into your keyboard at Home or At School. Comments!!!!!WONT SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!! I am a Webmaster born and raised in Albuquerque. I currently live there and raise my family. I am responsible for 2 children ages 9 and 11. The one thing I have noticed at the school they attend is the extreme change in the behavior of the 5th graders since last year. They are more aggressive and more critical of one another. They concern themselves with the silly judgmental attitudes of adult American society. The pretty people are separating from the smart and weird looking people. The athletic are discovering that their power or speed gives them an advantage in the social order of things. The gap between rich and poor is growing steadily wider. It is fascinating to watch and my discussions with other parents from different schools mirror many of my observations. It is just beginning in my case and the next few years will be quite an adventure for my wife and me. This is puberty people. This has been puberty for the history of the United States, if not since the dawn of human time. Didn’t you read “Huck Finn” or see “West Side Story” these are based on real life you know or else they would not be such powerful pieces of art. Take a deep breath and think back to your own experiences when you were getting ready to take that big jump from middle school to high school. This does not sound much different than my experiences in ABQ during middle school. I also seem to remember a strong Belen vs Las Lunas mentality way back then in the late 70s early 80s. I also remember that I was supposed to hate some other school, but it is all so irrelevant now that I just can’t seem to remember the name. I also seem to remember that the Freaks hated the Cowboys who hated the Jocks who hated everyone else while the punks kept to themselves except when attacked by some other group and then they might ally themselves with the blacks, lowriders, or even the cowboys. The band guys wore glasses, the cheerleaders got better grades, the jocks never seemed to get suspended and the crazy theatre folk were to be left alone, normal High School. Didn’t anybody watch “the Breakfast Club?” I remember one night, in HS (‘85?), at a “battle of the bands” where there were three different fights going on at the same time on the football field. The blacks were fighting the jocks that were also fighting the freaks and then the general public was attacking the punk band that severely injured a cat onstage by swinging it around the lead singers head during their set. I particularly remember the next day all the “Freaks” were rounded up, locked in a classroom and lectured to on the evils of hating those of another color. I also seem to remember most of the “Freaks” that were present were not even at the event or were inside, unaware of what was going on until the lights came on, the sound went off and we were told to exit to the other side of the building and go home. I also remember sitting at a computer terminal in 8th grade when the teacher asked me why there were so few students after school. I didn’t think much of it when I responded that there was some sort of fight going on with the rival school behind the Circle K. I also remember the day a girl came up to me and continued to insult my penis size at the top of her lungs as some sort of induction to a “club”. I still have a jacket that another classmate (from Belen, ironically enough) wrote obscenities in permanent ink all over one day. Nothing has changed. Life is hard. And Puberty is harder. This is not specific to NM. Travel around and you will hear similar, if not identical, stories from everyone. Watch TV, movies and read some popular books, you see the theme all the time. It is part of “Americana” You see it now in TV shows and think it is reminiscent or humorous. Is it right for children to behave like this? Of course not. What can we do about it? That is where our energies should be focused. But I do know that killing the poor webmaster will not help except, perhaps, our own selfish feelings of Revenge. When it hits home we grab our shotguns and find the bastards responsible. No wonder our kids have no sense of responsibility and lash out at each other in a hateful manner. I can’t help but recall that the most recent school shooting and the famous CO one (and every one I can remember in the last 30 years) all involved kids who had been picked on their whole lives because they were a little different or saw the world in a different light than the others and could not deal with the stress. Perhaps that is where the problem lies? Don’t I remember Jesus and his followers saying a lot on the subject? Love one another, treat others as they would treat you, do not judge, understanding and compassion all seem very distant today.
I only point this out in an effort to calm everyone down and call off the Witch Hunt. Did anyone at the school ever even think to email the webmaster or call someone familiar with the Internet to find out how to contact them? Always easier to type and shout than to pitch in and help in a state that comes in 46th in the nation because they can’t get anyone to volunteer anymore like my mother and many others did. If we all help educate our children and teach them what is right, the job is easier for all of us. People like this girl make sure people keep their mouths shut. On the Internet in an anonymous post, people can say what they really think and even embellish a little if they want. It is a common Internet communication problem. If you are going to give your kids Internet access and then complain about it, you should at least learn a little about its culture. If anything I think this was an interesting discussion about the whole class issue in society. One the children would not have had at school without the anonymity of the web. I seem to count a good number of students speaking the truth and encouraging their peers to act appropriately. Let us take that as a good sign and encourage this type of behavior. Reward and congratulate those students, they deserve it! To the parents and school officials in Belen: Put your energy into teaching the children and not threatening the poor Webmaster. You owe him an apology and I don’t think the kids will ever learn the right thing to do until you set the example. I look forward to seeing your apology get equal press as your wild allegations. As for the children: Teach them to love one another. Stop pointing out all the differences between us and point out all the wonderful similarities. CommentsTo all of you that are still coming here and to the Administration and Parents of BHS. I have a daughter at LLHS and I want you all to know I think this a great site. If you want to know what is going on with your kids come here and read. You just might be able to take care of a problem before something really goes wrong. I would hate to see some of the things that have happened, happen in LL or Belen, like they did in CA. Co. and numerous other places. Just think by having this site we it might just work. I know you are worried about the fights at school because of postings that might be on here...But I kind of think that it is just like you and I were in High School, you make a comment and that was usually where it ended. I know you are going to say that these days things are different...but guess what they really aren't. I think you all need to take a few minutes and remember when you were a kid. Was it really that long ago that you can't remember? Well I hope you take in to concideration what I had to say and maybe you will think twice about the fight that you are going to have to have this site torn down. I don't love that you kids hate each other or that you are so needing or attention that you feel you need to diss on either the preps or the skaters. But, I like that you guys are activley participating in free speech. Which includes parents, first and foremost, if your not spending time with your kids, they will find someone or something esle who will, ie, gangs, internet, etc. As stated in an ealier post I am tired of seeing people not taking responsibility for their actions, I have a question to ask, "Why is that guy who is pointing a gun at your head, making you type these comments, allowed in your school?" We live in a society (society is comprised of the people who make the rules) where status is measured by external entities, instead of what is inside a person. I am as guilty of this as anyone else, but by being aware of this I can change myself, and hopefully change my perception of what society dictates to someone in order for them to feel successful? Who you are is more important that what others think you are. People who hide behind external objects are the most insecure, as they feel the need to conform to society's definition of success. They are trying so hard to be a human 'being' rather than being a human 'doing'. CommentsOur kids at the BMS should foot some blame for all this, after all they are human beings and hold some responsibility to the rest of us. However they are young and inexperienced and it is up to the adults in their lives to show and instill in them that these responsibilitys are real and must be learned. Being mean is a learned behavior and is usualy tought by adults. We see it in our work place, in public places and at home, we see it in govenment, politics, and administration. Uaually I wouldn't even be in a place like this but I have heard so much about this that I had to try to change a few minds in our kids and some people that have a bad view of our kids in our community. Its not bad that the kids are speaking their mind it bad that they have to be mean about it. Its not bad that the country has found out that we have problems in our school system like the rest of the country, its bad that our school administration tryed to hide the problem from the media instead of trying to correct it in the appropriate manner. Its not bad that our adolecents are acting like adolecents, its bad that we are not guiding them towards adulthood as is evedent by some of the postings on this page by the adults. Its not bad that we are all making mistakes in raising our kids,its bad that we are blaming the kids for our mistakes. We need to get ahold of our kids and shake some kindness and responsibility into them. We need to take the adults and make them resposible for teaching our kids the right thing. We must watch closely our school administrators and make sure they are held accountable for the stupid things they do after all they are the ones we intrust our children to every day for nine months of the year. Things that happen at home are the parents responsibilty, things that happen at school are the administrations responsibility. what happens on this page is also the moral responsibility of whoever put it here even though the courts say different. We are all responsible with the kids having the least responsibility in this mess.

When the Belen page first started it was attached to a copy of the Belen Middle School homepage, this used as a clever disguise incase the principal walks by I believe is what the webmaster stated earlier. CommentsWOW! I do have to say..."I thought it was just a lot of hype in the media." Boy was I wrong. My son attends BMS, and this has me very concerned. For those of you that are parents reading this I have to ask..."How can we help our kids?" There are over 300 students at this school, and I am thankful my kid wants nothing to do with this site, but, he is there and he has friends too. So this is basically a plea from my son and I. As parents I feel we all need to be in touch with the school. There has to be something done about this hate that is running rampid. I do believe that gangs, organizations and such were supposed to be banned from the schools?!? How can all this be happening?? We must do something before this gets so out of control, we can't stop a situation from happening. It's one thing if children want to dislike eachother, or be different. But it's another to do do nothing but express hate for one another! No one said we have to like each other, but we do need to learn to get along, and so do our children. Those rules still apply to society, and becoming a productive member of that society. Before we are witness to a riot or a worse scenerio, let's all get with the school and figure something out, and PLEASE, even if you don't attend meeting for pto or any of that stuff, I think it's time we all got a little more involved. Now though I would say that wouldn't be the case. I have never seen such poor spelling and grammer. Apparently whomever is overseeing the development of these kids is out to lunch or is too busy watching Jerry Springer. I agree that you cannot mess with freedom of speach.
